Smokey’s 2025 Legacy Tour is a celebration of his long lasting staying power in popular African American music culture that has transcended generations and households for the past fifty years of his solo career. So - are you ready to take a trip down memory lane? Are you ready for the Sweetest Harmony?
Smokey Robinson was born in Detroit Michigan in the 40s and came up with the Motown record label seal of approval once he began making music with his group The Miracles. A songwriter first and foremost, Smokey met Berry Gordy during his early years as a musician before Gordy officially started Motown - but the years long relationship served Smokey well, as it aided in his creative freedom under the label and Gordy’s supervision. The Miracles first major song, Shop Around, became Motown’s first million sales hit. Robinson made over twenty five number one hits with The Miracles before starting his own solo career, which is really where he began to see the heights of his fame and the acclaim he was bound to reach.
With Robinson’s 1973 album Smokey, he saw his two early hits come to fruition on the big stage - Sweet Harmony and Baby Come Close. And by his third album, A Quiet Storm, Smokey Robinson had cemented his legend status. Hits like Baby Backatcha and The Ecstasy. By this point - Smokey had cemented his place in the industry. And, for the past five decades, has gone on to tour around the world endlessly, earn a spot in The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, and get TWO stars on the Walk Of Fame - now that’s impressive.
